Trendsetting
This week I have been thinking, couldn’t really tell you why this popped into my head, but I was thinking about trends and trendsetting. I am not talking about the actual trends, that is for a later post. I mean the way trendsetting works.
First, I want you to think about it. How do you find out about the new trends? Through blogs? Instagram? Runway shows? For example, I research them in runway shows so that I can share them with you guys, but I also look on Instagram for hours at the so called ‘trendsetters’ .
Now, who are the trendsetters? They are influencers and people from the fashion industry, that post pictures, blog posts or magazines. Everybody follows or knows about at least one trendsetter.
What I am trying to get to here, is the way our generation is so easily influenced. If you are a fashion addict like me, you watch the runway shows, read Vogue etc. to hear about what’s knew. What I don’t understand is why there are so many people that choose wrong people or places to get inspired or influenced by.
For example, we all know, Americans have this layed back, chill way of dressing. I am not saying all of them do, I am talking about a majority. Americans prefer comfort, and there is obviously nothing wrong about that. A lot of Americans that travel to Europe are impressed by how much thought we put into our outfits and how put together we look. I, as an European, take that as a compliment.
What I don’t understand is why so many fashion influencers, that are supposed to set the trends, prefer to use the American way. Again, I am not saying their way is wrong, but if you work or are interested in the fashion industry, in my opinion you should look the part. If all of us started to go to meetings and parties in sweats, it would be like the fashion industry doesn’t exist.
My point is, that if we have so much influence over people and how they dress, why not motivate them to try and dress like ‘Europeans’. Look at the people that live in London, Paris, Milano etc.
I am not here to insult anyone; I am just simply speaking my mind. If we want to spread a fashion sense, why use the easier way. Anyone can wear a pair of sweatpants and a huge T-shirt, but that doesn’t make it stylish or fashionable. Don’t get me wrong, I also wear that type of clothing, but I do not consider it a stylish option. I consider it a stay at home, comfy outfit.
I know this post was way longer than the others, but I just had to put it out there. I know a lot of people will disagree with me, and I am okay with that, because everyone is entitled to an opinion. So please let me know what you think about this. Have a lovely day,
XOXO, Delayla
